Let me start with a sentence I never expected to say: a broken office AC forced me to rethink our entire cold chain maintenance strategy.

Last July, the AC compressor in our office started running for 2-3 minutes, then shutting off. Repeat.   • The equipment is non-critical to your core operation.
  • You're planning to replace the unit within 12-24 months.
  • The cost of failure is low—a couple of repair calls won't hurt you.

Choose preventive maintenance when:

  • The equipment protects a product with strict temperature requirements.
  • The asset runs continuously or during peak demand.
  • A failure would trigger compliance violations or customer penalties.

There's no universal answer for break/fix vs preventive. That honesty has saved us more money than any maintenance contract ever did.
